Growth, Growing, Gone
+ my thoughts on sweet treats

Good morning! Happy Wednesday! ❤️
Sharing some big news today!

I love the chipmunk filter; it is so cute!
It feels so good to be able to write for you all once again! I’ve been taking short breaks periodically, and although I should be telling you all when I am out of the office, I feel that occasionally surprising you with a newsletter is exciting, Mabe? Many things have come up regarding my schedule changes, but I am working alongside those new things to give you all the content you deserve. I enjoyed my little break as I took the time to figure out who I am and what I want to do while I’m down here in Detroit, and I am ecstatic about my choices and what will be happening in the future.
We have officially hit 100+ subscribers, which feels too good to be true! Thank you so much for being here!
I am thrilled to provide more inclusive content to those joining, especially about the food and beverage industry. I love writing opinion pieces, and occasionally, you might see a random post about a restaurant I have visited recently.
Sponsor break! I know… Who would’ve thought it… 100 of us AND a sponsor?
I’m very grateful for everything; however, this is a special ad segment. Every click helps support 1440 Media and me as we grow on this platform. Just be mindful of where you click! Please like, comment on, and share this newsletter. Your support means everything!

I will most certainly pass you a plate.
Now… Let’s talk dessert.
Dessert can be the best part of the night, let’s be honest…but we shouldn’t limit ourselves to getting the dessert we want. There are SO many options when deciding what to get for your sweet treat. Sometimes, restaurants have a delicious dinner menu, but their dessert menu may be lacking, which is okay.
No matter how full I am after a meal, I never turn down an offer to get dessert, whether that be in the restaurant I have just dined at or another brick-and-mortar just down the street. I have admitted before and will continue to admit when things don’t look appetizing to me on a dessert menu, and I go home without that sweet treat.
Or do I?

Sometimes, the best dessert is somewhere else. Whether at home, another brick-and-mortar, or a hole in the wall.
You might wonder why not just go to restaurants known for their desserts. The reality is that fewer places have dedicated pastry chefs these days—it's more cost-effective for them to offer a couple of simple desserts instead. So, rather than letting a limited dessert menu spoil the dining experience, I prefer to find a sweet finish elsewhere.
Some of my favorite grab-and-go dessert spots in the Metro Detroit area are:
Huddle Soft Serve is off of John R St. It’s open until ten and has truly the best soft serve in the area. You can get the kid’s cone even as an adult to not only save you a couple of bucks but also get the most bang for your buck after a very fulfilling meal.
Astoria Pastry Shop in Greektown off of Monroe St has some of the best pastries around. The service is quick, they have a wide array of desserts you can choose from, and you can eat them on the go if you want to as you walk around Detroit.
Detroit Water Ice Factory is a wonderful spot to pick up water ice, which is vegan for my vegans, popcorn, pretzels, and so much more. They have it all, and it is right off of Woodward; upon stepping out of the store, you can then catch the Qline to Midtown to visit some fantastic bars.
For the Love of Sugar is located in Midtown and offers a wide array of pastries, cakes, and French pastries. It is a beautiful spot where you can eat in or out and enjoy some fantastic pastries.

If you’re looking for another restaurant to drink and browse the dessert menu, here are some honorable mentions that aren’t grab-and-go but have excellent pastry programs in the area:
Oak & Reel (2921 E Grand Blvd): I would step into Oak & Reel anytime to indulge in their pastry menu. It helps to know who they have there, and the pastry chef (Kristen Maretti) is fantastic at what she does.
Le Supreme (1265 Washington Blvd): Focused on traditional French flair, the team at Le Supreme is doing something right. I love how their detailed and pastry menus help you feel like you are in France.
Mabel Gray (23825 John R Rd): Located in Hazel Park, Mabel Gray has an esteemed culinary team, and their pastry program, aka Ali, is phenomenal at what she does; their menu changes weekly, and Ali is excellent at what she does by changing the way you see desserts and view the end of your meal.
Grey Ghost (47 Watson St): This restaurant has a rotating seasonal menu, and the team is always doing something right. They have the perfect portions and always make you feel like you’re at home when it comes to ending your meal. Whenever I eat at Grey Ghost, it always feels like tiny people are dancing on my palette. It is wonderful.
